Lesson number 2 - this is harder than you think?!
Fortunately the tutor had done some animals using cream eggs to remind us what we had to do. She had also showed us how to make the primrose and daffodils again. Unfortunately I didn't have a 6 petal cutter so will have to try to remember how it was done and practise at home. I also need to get a small pair of scissors - handy for making cuts to form the petals.
I had taken my camera this time so took several photos of the animals. Hopefully I can put them onto the computer and have a blown up version to look at whilst I try more at home.
So, I had made my yellow, brown, and green sugar paste/marzipan mix ready to get started. I began with the elephant which turned out pretty well, so flushed with success I moved on to a teddy in a car - mine was a koala though because I had brown paste rather than teddy coloured paste.
He ended up a rather drunken koala who kept leaning to the side but quite cute for all that. What I did learn whilst doing his face is that "leave well alone" is a sensible thing to do. I faffed about with his mouth and nose and ended up having to scrape them off and do them again. Having successfully finished two I decided to go for broke and make a horse, complete with reins. I got as far as the head which when attached looked more like an armadillo so that is what it became - and a jolly site easier to do than horse I can tell you! I had been hankering to do the frog complete with red tongue, but it was time to clear away.

We then had to take our attempts to the front. This part of the night is not really me, but I thought I better had so sneaked them in at one side - and then they got moved but they didn't look too bad.
Yes I did enjoy it and hope to get more pleasure once I improve a bit. I showed them to my children with the stern warning that they hadn't to laugh. They were quite faint with their praise - but I shall press on and practise some more.
Next time it's baby/christening novelties and we have to take a 4 finger Kit-Kat. Now that definitely should be interesting.
