Make a Sugarpaste Reindeer
These little reindeer are incredibly easy to make and take no time at all. They would be great for adding on to a festive cake or make smaller ones for adorning your cupcakes.

You also only need a few materials and tools. You will need a brown coloured sugarpaste (or marzipan if you prefer) we have used Teddy Bear Brown on this occasion, a small amount of white & pale brown sugarpaste, coloured dragees and 2 small brown balls for the eyes – we have used two brown coloured choco balls (from our sprinkles range) to save time. Tools you will need are a sharp knife, paint brush, dried spaghetti, cooled boiled water and Cel stick or other pointy modelling tool. |
First, make the body by forming a chunky sausage shape out of the teddy bear brown sugarpaste, then make 2 slits in a cross pattern (going half way through the sugarpaste). This will form the 4 legs. Gently smooth and round the legs to soften them out and set to one side. |
Next make the antlers by forming a small long, tapered cone shape from the white sugarpaste. Using a sharp knife or small pair of scissors make two snips into the top (rounded) end of the cone then gently round and tease apart using your fingertips. You will also need to put a gentle curve towards the pointed end so that they will sit flat on the reindeers head. Set aside to dry. |
To make the head model a cone shape from some more teddy bear brown sugarpaste, but soften the narrower end to make the nose/muzzle of the reindeer. Roll a small oval shape from the pale brown sugarpaste and attach to the front of the head with a little cooled boiled water. Press in a coloured dragee to make a shiny nose and two choco balls for the eyes. The easiest way to do this is by making a small indent with a Cel stick or similar, then attach the nose / eyes with a little water (or edible glue) to make them stick. |
For the ears and tail, make 3 very small cone shapes with a rounded end and attach the pointed end to the head and body for the ears and tail. Then add the antlers to the top of the head (between the ears). All you need to do now is attach the head to the body with some water (or glue) and you can also support the head with a small piece of spaghetti if needed. That’s it! You can of course go to town on embellishments such as scarves, bowties etc |
