instructions

You'll need to have baked a batch of your favourite cupcakes and let these cool right down before you start to decorate. Why not bake them in our polka dot cupcake cases to enhance the Minnie Mouse design?

Preparing The Cupcakes

1. Once you have baked your cupcakes and left them to cool, you can start to decorate them. You need to begin by cutting out enough circles from white sugarpaste to cover each cupcake. The width of the sugarpaste should be approximately 2mm and the diameter of each circle should be slightly bigger than the surface of your cupcakes, so the size of cutter you'll need will depend on how big your cupcakes are!

2. Spread a little buttercream on top of your cupcake and place one of the white discs on top of this, smoothing it down slightly with your fingers. Repeat this for the rest of your cupcakes.

Piping The Frosting

3. Now it's time to pipe the frosting onto your cupcakes. Pop your 1M piping tip into your icing bag and then fill the bag with vanilla frosting. Twist the piping bag at the top to keep the frosting compact.

4. Pipe a tall swirl of frosting on top of your cupcake, starting in the centre and working your way outwards and upwards.

Creating The Minnie Mouse Ears

5. Now that your cupcakes are iced and ready to go, it's time to make the ears! To do this, take a piece of black modelling paste and roll it out to approximately 1mm thick. Using the small (1" diameter) circle cutter, create enough pairs of ears for your Minnie Mouse cupcakes. If you have 12 cupcakes, then you'll need to make 24 circles.

Making The Bows

6. Leave the ears to one side to dry and start work on the bow. Take a piece of hot pink sugarpaste and press this into the mould. You can use a rolling pin to make this stick into the mould.

7. Using a sharp knife, slice off any excess sugarpaste.

8. Bend the mould slightly to release the sugarpaste, and if you need to you can gently use your fingers to remove the bow from the mould.

9. Once you've made enough bows for each of your cupcakes, take the cone modelling tool and make several holes in the bows. You're going to fill the holes with white sugarpaste to make the polka dots.

10. Roll lots of tiny pieces of sugarpaste into balls and then press these into the holes. Use your cone modelling tool for assistance.

Putting Everything Together

11. Place the ears into the frosting, slightly towards the back of your cupcake. Then place the bow in front of the ears in the centre.

12. Serve up and enjoy!

Now that you've made your beautiful Minnie Mouse cupcakes, why not try making a celebration cake to match?
