instructions

Before you begin you'll need to bake a batch of cupcakes, the amount depending on how many you need! We recommend using the PME pastel coloured baking cases (pink, yellow and blue) as these match perfectly with the Cinderella, Sleeping Beauty and Snow White dresses. The amount of sugarpaste, frosting and other decorations needed will depend entirely on how many cupcakes you wish to make.

The Frosting

1. After you have baked your cupcakes in the pink, yellow and blue pastel baking cases, you can make your frosting. The frosting needs to be quite thick to retain its shape, so ensure you are happy with the consistency before you begin to pipe onto your cupcakes. Alternatively, you can purchase frosting from our store in lots of different flavours.

2. You're going to need to separate your frosting into three bowls as you will need to create three different colours for your princess cupcakes. A really easy way to colour buttercream or frosting is by using paste colours. Add a small amount of the paste colour to the frosting using a cocktail stick (a little really does go a long way) and mix this in thoroughly. If you feel the colour is too light, you can always add more paste colour to create a darker shade.

3. If you haven't done so already, attach the 1M piping tip to your piping bag. Fill the bag with frosting using a metal spoon and push the mixture to the base of the piping bag so that it is tightly packed. Twist the bag at the top to secure.

4. We think the cupcakes look especially pretty with matching coloured sugarpaste on the surface of each cupcake. If you've used paste colours to create your frosting, then you can make the same shade using the paste colour and white sugarpaste. Again, add a small amount of the colour to your sugarpaste using a cocktail stick and knead thoroughly. Once you have achieved the desired colour, roll the sugarpaste out to roughly 3mm thick. Use a large round cutter to create a circle and place this over the surface of your cupcake - just make sure they have cooled down first!

5. Next its time to pipe the frosting onto your cupcakes. Hold the cupcake in one hand and, with the other, begin to pipe a tall swirl starting from the centre of the cupcake.

6. Now you can add your princess decoration to the cupcake. Pop the decoration in the centre of the frosting and gently push down to secure into place.

7. Repeat these steps for your other princess cupcakes, this time using pink and blue paste colours to make your pastel pink and blue frosting.

Adding The Decorations

8. You've now made your princess cupcakes and they're looking as delicious as ever! Now you can add the little details to your cupcakes that will make them stand out and look even more beautiful. The first thing you need to do is make some small red bows for Snow White's dress. A very easy way to do this is by using a mould. Simply push a piece of red sugarpaste into the mould, cut off the excess using a sharp knife or palette knife, and then push the bow decoration out of the mould using your hands. Make several more red bows to go along the base of the dress.

9. Place each red bow into the frosting and add some white cake dragees to finish off your Snow White cupcakes. Put two white dragees above each bow (see photo).

10. For Cinderella, use some clear edible jelly gems and place these in the frosting in a pretty pattern. The gems will shine just like Cinderella's glass slippers and really add to the princess theme!

11. Lastly, give your Sleeping Beauty cupcakes some sparkle using pink edible glitter. Edible glitter is great for giving your cupcakes a beautiful and glamorous finishing touch, simply put a little glitter on a teaspoon and then gently tap this over the frosting. If you were going to decorate something solid with glitter, such as sugarpaste, then using a paint brush is a good way to do this.

In just 11 steps you have created your three princess cupcakes and now all that's left to do is eat them! These princess cupcakes would look great with a matching princess cake, and we even sell the Snow White, Cinderella and Sleeping Beauty cake toppers if you wanted to decorate a cake or a party table in true princess style!
