instructions

Bake a batch of your favourite cupcakes in some of our Ghoulish orange cupcake cases (here we've used the black ones from the set, but you can mix and match to make a spooky colour-coordinated theme!) and allow them to cool before you begin to decorate.

Making the Cupcake Toppers

1. Before you can begin to make your spider web design, you'll need to create the base to pipe onto. Start by taking a chunk of black sugarpaste and roll this into a smooth, round ball.

2. Roll out the black sugarpaste to roughly 3mm thick and use a 2 1/2" round cutter (approx) to create as many circles as you need to cover the tops of your cupcakes.

3. Spread a little jam or frosting on top of your cupcakes and place the black circles on each one.

Creating The Spider Web

4. To make the spider web, you're going to need a Wilton ready to use decorating icing tube in white, a standard Wilton coupler and a tiny piping tip. Screw the tip to the icing tube using the coupler.

5. Start by piping a straight line directly down the centre of the cupcake. You'll need a steady hand to do this! Take your time and maybe have a little practice, first.

6. Next, pipe several lines from the centre to the outer edge of the cupcake. Try to make the space between each line the same width.

7. You now need to join the ends of the lines together, to make a 'circle'. Instead of piping a straight line, this time curve each line into a slight 'U' shape.

8. Repeat step 7, this time working your way inwards towards the centre of the web. You'll need to do this one more time to complete the web shape.

Finishing Touches

9. Where there's a web, there's a spider! Finish the design by placing several spider ring toppers on the cupcakes. You can even put a few of these on your Halloween party table for effect!

So there you have it, a great way to make some spooky Halloween cupcakes in just a few steps with only a couple of items!
