instructions

To make your cake topper dry hard, add a little gum tragacanth or CMC powder to your sugarpaste and knead thoroughly before you start modelling.

Yoshi's Body

1. Take a piece of green sugarpaste, roughly the size of a walnut and knead in some gum tragacanth. Roll the sugarpaste into a smooth, round ball and then use your fingers to mould this into a cone shape with a flat top surface.

2. Next take some white sugarpaste and roll this out to approximately 2mm thick. Take your large petal cutter and cut out a tear drop shape. Stick this using edible glue to the front of the green cone to make Yoshi's body.

Making The Shoes

3. Now you need to make Yoshi's shoes. To do this, take two small pieces of black sugarpaste and mould these into oval shapes. Use the blade tool to create two indentations across the shoes and then attach these to either side of the body using edible glue.

Making Yoshi's Arms

4. To make Yoshi's arms, firstly roll two small pieces of green sugarpaste into sausage shapes. Flatten one end of each sausage to form a palm, and indent either side of the palm with the ball modelling tool to create the wrists. Use the blade modelling tool to make several slits in the palms for the fingers, and use your own fingers to round these off slightly.

5. Using the smaller end of the ball modelling tool, create indentations in the sides of the body where the arms will sit. Attach the arms to the body using edible glue.

Yoshi's Head

Next, to make Yoshi's head, take a piece of green sugarpaste and roll this into a smooth ball. Use your fingers to mould this into an oval shape and then create a small slit in the top of the head using a sharp knife.

6. Roll out a piece of white sugarpaste to approximately 1mm thick and then cut out a crescent shape to stick to the underside of Yoshi's face. To make the eyes, roll two small balls of white sugarpaste and two smaller balls of black sugarpaste. Squish these together to form the eyeballs. For extra detail, add two smaller balls of white sugarpaste on top of these. Stick the eyes to the face using edible glue.

7. To complete the face, you will need to make a nose! Do this by rolling a small ball of green sugarpaste and again, cut out a white crescent shape to stick to the underside of the nose. Place the nose on top of the face and secure using edible glue. Use the cone modelling tool to create two small holes in the nose.

8. Finally, place a cocktail stick through the centre of the body, leaving a small part of the stick poking through. Dab the underside of the head with edible glue and sit this on top of the body.

Dinosaur Egg

9. Now that you've completed your Yoshi character, why not make a dinosaur egg to go with it! Take a piece of white sugarpaste and roll this into a chunky oval shape. Roll out some frosted leaf sugarpaste to approximately 1mm thick and use a small circle cutter to make tiny circular shapes. Stick these to the white oval or egg using edible glue.
